JULY 26, 2022: In her first year of marriage, Ancicalia Simango (20) was exposed to ridicule from her family and friends as she failed to conceive as expected. In 2021, Ancicalia fell pregnant and joined a care group where she learnt about exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. She was rewarded in April 2022; she gave birth to “When I delivered my son, I started to breastfeed him. My mother-in-law suggested that I give him porridge, but I refused because I was taught that is wrong." USAID Takunda is training lead mothers and village health workers to organize mothers, fathers, and elderly women into care groups. USAID Takunda is facilitating the enrolment of students from Buhera, Chivi, Mutare rural, and Zaka into three technical vocational training centers: Magamba, Marange, and Mushagashe.
